Inspirations From The Forest

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Displayed through June and July
Location: Cradle of Forestry
This 16-panel exhibit illustrates how artists, writers and musicians draw their inspiration from the world of nature. The Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage produced and developed this exhibit from the 2005 Smithsonian Folklife Festival program "Forest Service, Culture and Community", which commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Forest Service. A quilt telling the story of Forest Service will accompany the exhibit through June. Stitched by over 80 volunteers, it shows various quilting and applique techniques and an amazing selection of fabrics in a lovely and meaningful design.
Programs associated with the exhibit:
June 16: Quilting bee at the Black Forest Lodge. Join Barbara Merrell and Kim Reid as they stitch a quilt in this historic cabin on the Biltmore Campus Trail.
June 16 and 24 beginning at 2:30:  Poet-Tree - find inspiration for your own poem about the outdoors or the natural world.
June 10, 23 and 26 at 3:00: Music program Songs of the Big Outdoors by Cindy Carpenter.
June 17 and 24: Nurture the artist within to create a work of art to take home with you!
July 25: Transylvania Plein Air Painters - watch artists at work around the site as they capture the light and scenes at the Cradle of Forestry in the "open air". Artwork created in this way conveys the feeling of a place other means cannot achieve.
